ASSIGNMENT 1

The most common flood-related disease is gastrointestinal disease. Other flood-related diseases which are not mentioned in the article are diseases cause by protozoal such as amoebiasis, cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis and allergic infections for example meningitis.

How to curb gastrointestinal disease so that flood victim will not have to suffer from this disease? In my opinion, because gastrointestinal disease is acquired by ingesting contaminated food and water, the authority should supply them with clean packed cooked food, clean drinking water and clean water supply for cleaning purposes until the situation come to normal. Of course these actions will involved big sum of money, required more volunteers and effective management but I believed it is worth for the sake of those precious life.

I think it is also a great idea if flood victims can be educated regarding this infectious disease by giving them information via talks, handouts, radio and television programs and so on. With proper knowledge, come understanding and prevention because nobody wants to become sick.

Flood victims should be placed in many designated flood relief centre in order to prevent over populated if put in only one place, make it easy to control sanitation and to lessen human to human contact in order to avoid spreading this enteric infections.

To strengthen their immune systems, flood victims should be advised to take daily vitamin supplements beside their diets. Another idea is to give them supplementary injection of a vaccine to maintain resistance to gastrointestinal disease.
