BLOG WRITING ASSINGMENT

IN CASE OF FLOOD
Floods make an enormous impact on the environment and society. Floods destroy drainage systems in cities, causing raw sewage to spill out into bodies of water. Also, in cases of severe floods, buildings can be significantly damaged and even destroyed. This can lead to catastrophic effects on the environment as many toxic materials such as paint, pesticide and gasoline can be released into the rivers, lakes, bays, and ocean, killing maritime life. Floods may also cause millions of dollars worth of damage to a city, both evicting people from their homes and ruining businesses.
Flooding has been shown to cause epidemics of water-borne and vector-borne disease, which are the most common flood-related diseases. Examples are typhoid fever, cholera and Hepatitis A or E. Water-borne outbreaks of diarrheal illness after floods are thought to result primarily from contamination of water caused by disruption of water purification and sewage disposal systems. However, it has been hypothesized that the secondary effects of flooding, including crowding and subsequent fecal-oral spread of gastrointestinal pathogens, may also contribute to spread of diarrheal diseases. Flood-related diarrheal epidemics cause significant morbidity and mortality throughout the world. People with low resistance, mainly elderly people and young children, are vulnerable to these diseases as well.
The relation between flooding and vector-borne disease (dengue, malaria) is complex. Many important infections are transmitted by mosquitoes, which breed in slow-moving water. Floodwaters can wash away breeding sites and lower mosquito-borne transmission. On the other hand, the collection of stagnant water due to the blocking of drains, especially in urban settings, can also be associated with increases in transmission.
Other flood-related diseases which are not mentioned in the article including Rodent-borne disease. Diseases transmitted by rodents may increase during heavy rainfall and flooding because of altered patterns of contact. Examples include Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome and leptospirosis. Risk factors for leptospirosis included flooding of open sewers and streets during the rainy season . Increased exposure to floodwaters contaminated by urine from animals infected with Leptospira species can cause fever-like illness and some deaths from hemorrhagic manifestations and shock.
In addition to the health outcomes detailed above, the other flood-related health impacts, including Acanthamoeba keratitis, epilepsy, leukemia, lymphoma, spontaneous abortion, melioidosis, effects of chemical contamination, infection from soil helminths and schistosomiasis.
The only way to curb the water-borne and vector-borne disease is to improve the people’s hygienic behaviour and to provide them with certain basic needs: drinking water, washing and bathing facilities and sanitation. Water is disinfected to kill any pathogens that may be present in the water supply and to prevent them from growing again in the distribution systems. Disinfection is then used to prevent the growth of pathogenic organisms and to protect public health and the choice of the disinfect depends upon the individual water quality and water supply system. The two most common methods to kill microorganisms in the water supply are: oxidation with chemicals such as chlorine, chlorine dioxide or ozone, and irradiation with Ultra-Violet (UV) radiation.

LET START OUR BLOG ASIGNMENT
Good Morning Cik Mas. How are you getting on during this year end? Fine, Happy or excited. Ok anything we feel is almost same coz all that's are only our feeling. The important thing is we must try our best to handle our life to satisfy ourselve and others that we deal with. Ok, before I'm going to write the assignment, I would like to wish you and all of my classmate;
A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 MAY GOD ALWAYS BLESS US IN ANY DREAMS AND GIVE US A GOOD HEALTH TO RUN OUR DUTY.
Recently our country was heated by a bad flood starting from Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Pahang and tha latest is Johor. Many of us have had to deal with it. As floods are affecting a number of states in Malaysia, there a lot of flood related diseases was increased.
The common outbreaks of infectious diseases may appear as a result of flooding, notably infectious leptospirosis, dengue fever, dysentry or diarrhea, enteritis, infectious hepatitis and other water-borne diseases like high fever and vomitting. Some of the diseases can cause fatal if not well monitor.
Outbreaks of communicable diseases after floods are unusual. However the rates of diseases that were present before a flood may increase because of decreased sanitation or overcrowding among displaced persons. Increases in infestious diseases that were not present in the community before the flood are not usually a problem. if we receive apuncture or a wound contaminated with feces, soil, or saliva, have a doctor or health department to determine wether a tetanus booster is necessary based on individual records. Specific recommendations for vaccinations should be made on a case-by-case basis, or as determined by local and state health department.
Other diseases that increased after flood is related to our olders and children such as diabetic, asthmatic, hypertension, cough, headache and high fever. The increased of these diseases is according to the condition that may be the food and medication provided was limited.
Other flood-related diseases which are not mentioned in the article is about the diseases in Poultry and Livestock. We must take special precautions against flood-related diseases in poultry and livestock. If possible, we move the poultry or livestock to a dry and clean enviroment. Give animals extra care, particularly if they have been stranded by floodwater and have been off regular feeding schedule. Be caution about allowing livestock access to wet or contaminated feed. Feed only a few animals initially, watching them for several days before allowing others livestock access to questionable feed, hay or silage.
In additon, watch for signs of flood-related diseases such as Blackleg and anthrax. Blackleg caused by microorgarnism spread over fields by standing water, is a potentially serious post-flood disease. It most commonly affects cattle 6 to 24 months old, but it also affects sheep, goats and infrequently occurs in swine.
Symptoms include lameness, depression, fever and swelling in the hip, shoulder, chest, back, neck or throat muscles. If untreated, blackleg is usually fatal within 24 hours after onset, and death may often be the first indication of diseases. treatment may be effective in the early disease stages. The best prevention against blackleg is inoculation of all unvaccinatad young cattle before they they are put on pastures that have been flooded. Vaccines are available which also protect against malignant edema (gas edema) and other water-borne diseases.
Another diseases that may break out following flooding are Anthrax and Tetanus (lockjaw). These diseases kill animals one or two days after symptoms appear. However, clinical signs are seldom detected early enough to allow effective treatment. The key to controlling these diseases is initiating a good immunization program that available in both specific and combination vaccines. All animals that is suddenly following flooding should be necropised by vaterinarian.
The ways to curb one of the diseases; one of the example is the symptom of lemeness which is a painfull swelling of the hoof and foul-smelling dead tissue in the space between the claws of the cows. To prevent this infection is, walk cows through a solution of copper sulphate (2 pounds of ordinary commercial bluestone in 5 gallons of water) as they leave the milking parlor or stable after theyhave been thoroughly milked. Put the solution in a 4 - 6 deep container, place in an alleyway or doorway. As long as cows' feet are stained with the copper sulphate solution, they are reasonably protected against foot rot. A vaccine is also available to help procedures control this disease - Boob Pa Init, G74463

FRIENDS
Just to say hello and do keep in touch...
True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it is lost...
A real friend is aone who talks in when the rest of the world walks out...
Hold a true friend with both of your hands...
Friends listen to what you say...
Best friends listen what you don't say...
A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing with you if you have forgotten the words...
Friends are God's way of taking care of us...
So, take care of your friends...
HOW TO HAVE A GOOD DAY
Don't forget those morning exercises...
Wash properly and everywhere...
Have a good stretch...
Don't get out on the wrong side of the bed...

Assalamualaikum Cik Mas.
When flood occurs many people being moved from their homes to over crowded designated flood relief centers where usually there not enough supply of clean water and foods. The most common flood-related disease occurs in this centre is related to gastrointestinal diseases with symptoms of fever, stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhea. This diseases usually due to contaminated of water supply and food from poor hygiene with bacteria like Vibrio cholerae, Eshericheria coli and Salmonella typhi . Other common diseases are conjunctivitis, dermatitis and leptospirosis due to contaminated of flood water due to overflow of toxic wastes sites. For the cases of a vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria only arise after the flood decline because the mosquito start to breed in the staged water . Other common flood-related diseases which always occur in the designated flood relief centre that are not being mentioned in this article are cough, sore-throat and flu. These diseases usually related to the damp whether with overcrowded peoples and poor ventilation where the virus easily can be spread by sneezing. Other diseases related to viruses are Hepatitis A due to contaminated food and water supply. We also must remember that during this disaster especially old people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart problem, hypertension, asthma, their conditions become worst because no proper treatment because during rescue time to save their life is more important than their medicine .Since the most common flood-related disease infect the gastrointestinal areas the best way to curb this diseases during and after the disaster is to make sure to use clean water when handling and preparing the food , drink bottle water or cooked water and make sure seek for the early treatment when there is a symptoms such as stomach ache and vomiting in you, your family or your community.

Assalamu'alaikum
I can't really focus on study and give a 100% commitment to the classes in this semester. I faced a lot of difficulties and problems compared to last semester which i feel more relaxed.
My wife warded to the maternity hospital during the week that we had the English classes. I just got a phone call from the doctor yesterday informing me that my wife probably need to go for surgery if the condition of the baby become worst. Beside of my family problem, my boss and my office staff also keep on calling and messaging me through the cellphone regarding to the work that i left behind before coming here.
I am sorry to all of my group members for not giving a good participation especially to the assignments given to us. I am very sorry for being like lost since I am the group leader. Thanks for the consideration and I am proud to be in your group.
Lastly I would like to say millions of thank you to Cik Mas for the meaningful English class. May you always be blessed and good luck.
Wasalam.

Im Glad You're Here.
Thank you for writing in. Thank you for all the things you share here. Hilang rindu sekejap after reading all the posts.
You know, the things you wrote here show me that you can use English better than you have ever let me know in class. I mean, when in class, when you did not speak that much other than during the presentation, i thought your proficiency was rather low. But when you wrote your posts here, it seems that you are actually a good user, almost all of you.
So what im trying to say is you are better than you ever let yourself believe. You have just never really tried it.
Like Maz said, what is past, is past. You can never turn back time. But what you can do is learn from it. Everything happens for a reason. At least, now you know where you stand, how much you need to improve.
When you have it inside you that you want to improve, that's when i know you ARE going to improve.
I believe it's ok to feel bad about your presentation, just as long as you don't feel it too long. It will discourage you from trying.
Do write more ya. I may not be able to comment each and everyone of you, but i am going to read all of your posts.
Thank you for your cooperation. You remind me of how much i love what i do.
Love,
Mas.

first time use
Actually, this is my first time used this blog and I try my best to write something in here.
Thanks to Kak Mas,for the lecture and comments.I know during presentation and discussion, I'm very bad.I can't control my nervous because my pronunciation is not good. Not only speaking,in fact my writing also.I hope I can improve my english soon.
from : mariah
just to share...
First of all, I want to thank Kak Mas for giving this opportunity for us to improve our english. I'm very poor in English either in speaking or writing. But I try to write something here...so that Kak Mas or everybody here can comment on my writing...
Honestly to say that I like Kak Mas to be our English teacher. Although at the first impression, I feel very scared at her...like a hungry lion looking for its victims...hehheheee. But at the end, I know who you are and I will miss you and your style of teaching...
Since everybody is talking about our unpleasant presentation that night, I also want to share my feelings about that. I thought that after the presentation, I would feel relieved or in other words..."fuhhh....legaaa...!!!". But it didn't happened. It still haunt me untill now. It always come to my mind and I can't stop thinking how bad I was during my presentation. I can't stop blaming on myself for the worst presentation that night. As Kak Boop and Kak Tina said, if we will get a second chance to represent it, it may be different or better. But I don't want to get through it again. It's so stress...like a nightmare for me!
I agree with Kak Tina that our group had tried our best and gave effort especially when preparing the power point slides. We spent a lot of time to make it nicely, so we didn't have much time to practise it. But like Kak Mas said, it's just an excuse...."alasan!". Actually, it's all our weakness.
I hope that this English subject won't spoil our CGPA for this semester since almost of us got a very good and excellent result for the last semester. Good luck!
Wassalam.

make it clear
Yesterday and today I know some of our friends suspected something in between me and Wong when they're thinking about the incident that's happened during the English Class presentation. Actually is nothing. Just like Wong explain earlier, is because we are too busy no time to make a preparation and may be me too, I got no time to think about the impacts. no body want to throw the valuable marks that night. Both of us tried to contribute the best but may be, may be we forgot to think about the merge of preparation. Myself sometimes is "Lurus bendul".
For information to everybody in the class me and Wong are good friend, even in at the office we share our room. We always chit chat and discuss certain things like others. Sometimes Wong ask me some opinions include her personal. Myself too, I often ask her opinion when I feel blank or need some ideas. Separated task given to us is not mean that we are quarell or unsatisfied with each other but that is is may be our mistakes, not matured.....even look matured!
So for my dear friends please don,t ask me any question anymore. We accept the faith....BOOB

Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Executive Programme)
All classes were held at Kuala Lumpur Campus either at Faculty of Allied Sciences, Jalan Raja Muda Abd Aziz or at PKP Complex, Jalan Temerloh during the intensive weeks. During the self learning modules we have to access the e-learning or other websites given to us for the notes, assignments, quiz, test, etc. You can click here for more information.
There are 25 of us. We are already in second semester and most of us did well in our first semester. All of us are Medical Laboratory Technologist from various Universities and Health Agencies. Most of us were from Klang Valley accept for Haji Anuar (Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II Kota Bharu), Kak Tina (Hospital Bentong), Yati (Hospital Taiping), and Yani (Hospital Alor Star).

My first post
Here it is my first post and believe it or not I am the first student to post here.
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman. I am blessed with a lovely wife; Zuleha and we have 5 wonderful boys; Hadi, Harith, Hakim, Hafiz and Hanif. I love my family and they were the most wonderful priceless that been given to me. Thanks to the Almighty God.
My hobbies are computers and chess. I really love strategy games and I think chess is probably the greatest strategy game of all time.
I am the executive program student of Bachelor in Biomedical Sciences conducted by Pusat Kembangan Pendidikan with collaboration with Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, UKM. It is a 5 semesters course and almost similar to a off-campus programs that had been offered by other universities. I will write more about our course in the next post Insha-Allah.
Our English lecturer, Cik Huzaiffa Mastura was little bit late today because of heavy traffic jammed nearby Sungai Besi Toll Plaza. Alhamdulillah the class were "live" and "cheerful" as yesterday. Honestly I like the way Cik Mas teach and conducting the class although sometimes she could also make us feel terribly scared. Every lecturers have their own way or style of teaching and their "Rules and Regulations". As a student I should respect that.
We had a "trial" group discussion presentation in our class today. It was fun. Everybody in each group try to take part and give their opinions. Thanks Cik Mas for it and as for myself after the discussion I feel like I am more prepared for the real presentation tomorrow.
It's almost 11pm and I already late. I got to stop and hit the road...
Cheers!..
